New Stuff

Kendall's new glasses came in today. She is now a +32 in her left eye, and a +19 in her right. I couldn't even begin to explain this to anyone! All I know is these glasses aren't nearly as cute as the ones I really wanted, but they also aren't nearly as bad as the ones we thought she was going to have to get! So, I guess they'll do. The only things I care about are that they improve her vision, they stay on, they are comfortable, and the lenses don't pop out. Trust me, they weren't cheap :) And they're extremely thick!

And, last week her AFO's with hinges finally made their appearance. They fit like a glove, are very comfortable, and have prevented her poor little feet from turning in. The backs have adjustable straps for more movement. When her VERY OWN KID WALK arrives next week, she will be able to wear them and bend her feet while she runs around :)

Have I mentioned we have a multi-million dollar baby?! Well, we do!

Have you thought about doing the contacts? Now thoes suckers aren't cheap either Finny's were $400 a pair but they were the soft lenses the hard gas lenses are much cheaper. You could also do the contacts with the glasses to thin out the lenses in the glasses. No its not bad doing the lenses they are very easy to put in and take out.

We've asked multiple times about contacts...first, her eyes were too small, then we were told with her severe nystagmus it would be very difficult to put them in. but since her eyes are growing so well now, there is a possibility of inocular lens implants in the next few years.

have you been able to get the contacts covered by insurance? i know one of the aphakic yahoo groups has a letter listed with CPT codes for the "prosthetics" (ya know, since it is medically necessary...) but we have had a very hard time getting aetna to cover any lenses...grrrrrr

We just had to get Jasmine her first pair of glasses, wow they were expensive! I did buy the bendable frames though and so far so good! She has the little soft pink h ooks that hook around the back of the ear and they have stayed on her great! Its nuts how much money we put into all this equipment for them, lol.

We were getting the hard lenses covered by insurance. Now the soft silsoft lenses they only cover $140 on the pair. The hard lenses were $45 each so well with in the allowence.
Finnian has one eye smaller than the other, nystagmus( which is really bad) and a whole load of other things wrong with his eyes but the lenses keep his eyes in a better position. I know it sounds crazy. He is going in next week to get his eyes checked under anesthesia they cannot get the right readings on his ERG and the doctor cannot get a good look at the back of his eyes. They also are doing some other tests on his eyes as well. He is written up as legally blind but we will find out what they will see on Thursday,
Glasses can be couvered under most insurances if surgery has been done and also if their natural lenses have been removed. I know they would cover IOL but Finnys eyes are too small even for the smallest lenses.
